Where it all began...

Where it all began...

This is me! My name is Princie.

My journey with art started in 2010 in a 10th grade art class. I had the opportunity to experiment with different media: acrylic, oil, inks, and even chewing gum. Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with watercolour paints and inks.

I like that it's challenging to control and that it can have a mind of its own. My paintings rarely start with a plan. I ean into the process and take intuitive guidance from the marks that end up on the paper.

Fast forward to 2017, I was painting every single day, which helped me really refine my style and methods. I was creating a lot of pieces very quickly. Practice makes perfect, right?

On May 2017, I decided to start an art page on instagram, @bookmarksyourspot .

It is a play on the phrase “x marks your spot” and the word “bookmark”. Part of my practice is to leave her finished pieces around the city for people to find. The recipient can be a stranger on the train, a friend from work, a table at a coffee shop or a book in a bookshop. The fate of the bookmark lies entirely in the hands of the finder; they can choose to do whatever they want with it.

The goals of this project are to disrupt the monotony of city life and forge human connection through the unexpected gift of art. It’s an on-going project that will probably continue for the rest of my life.

This project got me out of my shell, allowing me to meet some lovely people and connect with them through my art. I stumbled upon a couple amazing opportunities with local bookstores as well as a coffee shop in Toronto. They gave me the space to display and sell my artwork.

That brings us to today. 7 years later, I am still painting every single day. I am finally ready to take the step towards participating in art markets around the city and making my work available for sale online! I am excited to see what the future holds.
